Overview

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Lead Controls Engineer with strong expertise in the automotive industry to join our team.

This position supports our Siemens Digital Industries Automotive Vertical (DI) operations in the United States.

Travel Requirement: Up to 50% within the U.S.

Position Overview

The Sr. Lead Controls Engineer will design, develop, and commission Siemens‑based control systems for vehicle manufacturing automation.

You will play a key role in delivering safe, reliable, and efficient automation solutions for automotive production lines.

This role requires technical leadership, decision‑making, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to mentor junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Control System Design & Development

  • Design and implement control systems using Siemens SIMATIC platforms (TIA Portal, Step 7, WinCC).

  • Develop software for automation equipment within automotive manufacturing facilities.

System Integration & Commissioning

  • Integrate software with electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Lead virtual and on‑site commissioning, testing, and system validation.

  • Ensure safety, efficiency, and optimal system performance.

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet project milestones and quality standards.

Safety & Compliance

  • Program and validate safety systems (e.g., Sick PLS).

  • Ensure compliance with automotive and industry standards (ISO 26262, CMSE®, Volkswagen VASS, BMW TMO, Mercedes INTEGRA).

Team Management

  • Lead and coordinate a team of controls engineers.

  • Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor project progress.

  • Support professional development, performance evaluation, and onboarding.

Strategic Project Management

  • Plan and oversee industrial automation projects from design to commissioning.

  • Manage schedules, budgets, and risks.

  • Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the main technical point of contact for clients, suppliers, and partners.

  • Lead technical discussions, reviews, and decision‑making processes.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field.

  • 810 years of experience in automotive automation.

  • Eligible for TN VISA application.

  • Expertise in automotive assembly systems, including conveyor and process equipment.

  • Proficiency in PLCs, HMIs, and drives (Siemens, SEW, Lenze).

  • Experience with industrial communication protocols: Ethernet, Profinet, Profibus (MQTT is a plus).

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams (EPLAN preferred).

  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CMSE® Certified Machinery Safety Expert (or equivalent).

  • Fluency in English and proficiency in Spanish.

  • Knowledge of OEM standards (Volkswagen VASS, BMW TMO, Mercedes INTEGRA).
