Linux Engineering Manager - Optimisation for Latest Hardware

Lead an engineering team that collaborates with Linux engineers from a major silicon company, working across the full Linux stack from kernel to GUI to optimize Ubuntu for the latest silicon.

This is a fast-paced, problem-solving role that is both challenging and exciting.

The ideal candidate must be resourceful, articulate, and capable of delivering solutions across PC and IoT technologies.

Our teams partner with silicon engineers to integrate next-generation features and performance enhancements for upcoming hardware.

As a Partner Engineering Manager at Canonical, your role involves managing relationships with key technology partners and ensuring the timely delivery of project milestones.

Technical leadership and a background in software engineering are essential.

You will lead, challenge, and develop engineering teams, influence company culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work on strategic initiatives.

What you'll do

  1. Lead a distributed team of engineers to design and implement optimal Ubuntu integrations for the latest IoT and server-class hardware platforms.

  2. Engage with commercial partners to deliver a top-tier, optimized Ubuntu experience on their platforms.

  3. Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, leading by example, and providing feedback.

  4. Oversee commercial engagements and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.

  5. Maintain high standards of quality and reliability.

  6. Collaborate with other Canonical teams to ensure alignment on product architecture and roadmaps.

  7. Work remotely with global travel up to twice a year for up to two weeks.

Who you are

  • Experienced with Linux distributions, Debian packaging, and high-performance server hardware.

  • Skilled in working directly with customers to resolve technical issues and understand business challenges.

  • Proven experience managing or leading software engineering teams.

  • Knowledge of agile software development methodologies.

  • Effective at collaborating across teams, building trust, and delivering results.

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.

  • Holding a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technology field.
