Lead Golang Software Engineer, Commercial Systems

Location : Remote in the EMEA region (all teams except for Ubuntu Pro) or the AMER region (Ubuntu Pro).

Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in interesting locations around the world, to align on strategy and execution.

The Commercial Systems unit is comprised of seven engineering teams that closely collaborate with other engineering and business teams.

Services designed, developed, and operated by the Commercial Systems unit are central to Canonical’s business, with Golang playing an integral role.

We are hiring for the following teams:

• The Billing team : designs, develops, and operates a Golang service that provides a standardized and scalable capability to turn metrics into billable amounts, enables customers to see their current spend with Canonical, and ensures accurate, reliable, and timely billing.
  
  The service integrates with other engineering, business, and payment systems.
  
  This team is a good match for engineers interested in billing and payment processing.
  
  
• The Contracts team : designs, develops, and operates a Golang service that will become the single source of truth for all contracts with all customers.
  
  The service provides standardized CPQ and stores signed contracts in a structured format.
  
  It integrates with a CRM and an accounting system.
  
  This team is a good match for engineers keen on understanding sales and revenue processes and growing beyond software engineering.
  
  
• The Livepatch team : designs and develops a service for delivering Linux kernel patches to shrink the exploit window for critical and high-severity vulnerabilities, patching the kernel between security maintenance windows while the system runs.
  
  This team offers opportunities for engineers interested in security and reliability.
  
  
• Ubuntu Pro backend team : designs and develops backend services for the delivery of Ubuntu Pro, the comprehensive open-source security subscription.
  
  The team builds Golang backend components; the Security team develops patches.
  
  This is a great fit for engineers focused on engineering quality, performance, and reliability in operations.
  
  

The role entails

• Develop engineering solutions leveraging Golang
• Lead technical designs, code reviews, and implementation
• Deploy and operate services developed by the team
• Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback to colleagues
• Develop and evangelize strong engineering and organizational practices

What we are looking for in you

• Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
• Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative path
• Proven track record of going above and beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results
• Experience with software development in Golang
• Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
• Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long

Nice-to-have skills

• Performance engineering and security experience
• Experience with accounting, sales, sales operations, or other business roles
