Job Description
**Introduction**
We are seeking an experienced IBM MQ Administrator with deep expertise in middleware messaging infrastructure and high availability (HA) configurations in on-premises and/or cloud environments.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in MQ queue manager lifecycle management, RDQM setup and troubleshooting, and JMS/JNDI integration to support Java applications.
This role requires hands-on experience in HA clustering, DR replication (DRBD), and cloud-native MQ deployment patterns using GKE or Compute Engineer.
**Your role and responsibilities**
Key Responsibilities:
· Administer and support IBM MQ queue managers, ensuring reliable message delivery across distributed and clustered environments.
· Manage and maintain queues, channels, listeners, and transmission paths between multiple MQ instances, optimizing routing and performance.
· Implement and sustain high-availability and disaster recovery configurations, including replicated or quorum-based queue manager setups.
· Oversee queue manager lifecycle activities, including setup, configuration, and controlled decommissioning, aligned with enterprise change standards.
· Maintain data replication and synchronization mechanisms used for queue manager redundancy and failover protection.
· Analyze and interpret MQ logs, FDCs, and diagnostic reports to identify root causes, address system incidents, and prevent recurrence.
· Integrate JMS-based applications with MQ through standardized JNDI contexts and connection configurations, ensuring consistent and secure connectivity.
· Troubleshoot application-level connection issues across both bindings and client communication modes, ensuring low-latency and resilient operation.
· Validate and monitor HA group health, node quorum status, and replication states to maintain continuous availability of messaging workloads.
· Collaborate with middleware and cloud platform teams to design hybrid MQ topologies deployed across Linux and cloud (GCP/Kubernetes) environments.
· Ensure consistent configuration and operational compliance through infrastructure monitoring, alerting, and configuration baselining.
· Develop and maintain operational documentation, including topology diagrams, configuration inventories, and standard operating procedures.
· Partner with development and integration teams to optimize message persistence, routing, and throughput for business-critical applications.
· Participate in incident response and root cause analysis for messaging-related service disruptions.
· Mentor team members and promote best practices in MQ administration, HA management, and operational resilience.
**Required technical and professional expertise**
· 5+ years of hands-on experience administering IBM MQ in distributed and/or cloud environments.
· Strong proficiency with RDQM setup and management
· Experience in JMS/JNDI configuration
· Solid understanding of MQ HA mechanisms
· Familiarity with Linux-based MQ deployments and MQ control commands.
· Excellent communication, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
· MQ monitoring experience
**Preferred technical and professional experience**
* Cloud deployment experience, preferably on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with GKE, Compute Engine, or Cloud Run.
* Certifications: IBM MQ Administration (v9.1 or higher), AWS/GCP Cloud Certifications, or IBM MQ on Cloud Developer Essentials.
